High Adventure

High-adventure bases across the United States offer Scouts the opportunity for the outdoor adventure of a lifetime. Through a multitude of specialized seasonal programs, from backpacking treks, to winter expeditions, to ocean adventures, these Treks will be sure to bring exploration to new heights.

We believe strongly that participating in at least one High Adventure program is an important part of everyone’s Scouting career. Many Scouts will attend two or more treks. To make this possible, Troop 1 aims to offer several opportunities for High Adventure from which a scout can choose. These trips require significant planning that starts more than a year before the trip. This guide is provided so families can discuss and plan for their scout’s participation.

Who May Attend

Participants must possess basic camping skills and have attended Camp Wanocksett at least one year. Treks require varying levels off physical fitness and the ability to pass the Scouting America swimmers test. Scouts must display maturity and self-responsibility, and Scoutmaster approval is required prior to registering for any high adventure trip.

Most trips will have limited availability. In cases where interest exceeds availability, priority will be given to Scouts with the highest rank. For Scouts of the same rank, it will be the one who earned it first. Some trips may be targeted to specific patrols or age ranges.
