How to join Troop 1

Interested in joining Troop 1? Boys aged 10-17 can join any time of year and are always welcome. Adult leaders are critical to operating the troop – no experience necessary!

Joining as a Scout

If you are crossing over from Lancaster Pack 9, you will be automatically registered with Troop 1 in April. No further action is needed.

  1. If you haven’t already, contact Troop 1 to let us know you’re interested in joining. We can arrange for you to join an upcoming meeting and learn about the Troop.
  2. When you’re ready to join, register with Scouting America. Membership dues are paid directly to Scouting America and provide a 12-month membership.

Joining as an Adult Leader

  1. If you haven’t already, contact Troop 1 to let us know you’re interested in joining.
  2. Print and fill out a paper application form.
  3. Print and fill out a CORI/SORI form.
  4. Complete the Safeguarding Youth class:
    • Visit my.scouting.org and log in. Create an account if you do not already have one.
    • Follow this link to go directly to the class after you have logged in: Safeguarding Youth training.
    • If the above link does not work for you, go to training.scouting.org/catalog, search for “Safeguarding Youth”, and click on the Safeguarding Youth Course.

Note: Any adult attending an overnight event must be currently registered with Troop 1 & Scouting America and have completed the Safeguarding Youth training course.

Uniform & Handbook

Members of Troop 1 wear the official Scouts BSA uniform for Troop meetings and other events. The uniform consists of:

  • Tan Scouts BSA shirt with green shoulder loops, Troop 1 patch, and Heart of New England Council patch
  • Green Scouts BSA pants or shorts
  • Green scout socks
  • Scout Belt
  • Scout Hat (Optional)
  • Scout Neckerchief (Optional)
  • As scouts earn merit badges, they can add a merit badge sash to their uniform for occasions such as a Court of Honor.

Scouts should have a Scouts BSA Handbook. A cover for the handbook is recommended.

Uniform and handbook can be purchased at Moore Lumber & Hardware in Ayer, the New England Scout Shop in Southborough, or online.
