Memorial Day Parade – Troop 1 is marching in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th. The ceremony starts at 9am. Scouts should be at the Lancaster Town Green no later than 8:45 AM. Parking downtown can get crowded so plan on arriving early. Scouts should arrive in full uniforms. This includes a Scout shirt with properly located patches, pants, and Scout belt. If you wear Scout shorts you need Scout socks. A Scout hat and neckerchief are encouraged but optional.
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of our country, we are marching to the Middle Cemetery this year to honor the Revolutionary War vets buried there. Troop 1 will also have a special guest speaker at the ceremony!
The parade should finish at the Town Green around 11am.
Order of the Arrow – The Order of the Arrow, or OA, has recognized Scouts and Scouters who exemplify the Scout Oath and Law daily. The OA is Scouting’s National Honor Society. It delivers peer-led advanced leadership experiences that help to build lifelong bonds through service and enrich each member’s Scouting journey.
We will be electing scouts from Troop 1 to be new OA candidates during next week’s meeting. To be eligible, a scout must be at first class and have completed 15 nights of camping over the last two years. We need the majority of scouts from Troop 1 to be present for the election so please arrive on time next week to support your fellow Troop 1 Scouts.
Greenfield State Park – Troop 1 is headed to Greenfield State Park, May 29th through the 31st. Activities include hiking up Crotched Mountain and an Iron Chef competition for dinner. We will be departing the firehouse at 6pm on Friday and returning Sunday at 11:30am. Cooking is by patrol and should include two breakfasts, one lunch and one dinner. The Saturday breakfast should be a hot breakfast. Saturday lunch should be something you make on site but can be carried with you while hiking. Saturday dinner is a hot meal for the Iron Chef competition. Stoves, campfires or charcoal can be used for hot meals.
Please make sure your Patrol has someone assigned to food shopping and have your menu set. Each Patrol needs to complete the campout attendance sheet and turn in the sheet to the Troop Secretary.
Troop & Patrol Elections – Elections will be held on June 4th. Any scout interested in one of the troop positions (SPL, ASPL, Quartermaster, and Scribe) must meet with Mr. Bhimji to discuss expectations prior to June 4th in order to be eligible.
Court Of Honor – Our year end court of honor is on Thursday, June 11th. The last date for Boards of Review is next Thursday. That means you should complete your Scoutmaster Conference by today. Scouts working towards the Scout rank need to complete their Scoutmaster Conference by next week.
Please see Mr. Bhimji & Mr Berry if you have not yet scheduled your Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review.
