Announcements 5/7/26

Orienteering – Scouts in the Goose, Flamingo and King Fisher patrols will be navigating an orienteering course during next week’s troop meeting. This meets First Class requirement 4b. Please bring a compass and be prepared for the weather. Penguin and Seagull patrols will have an intro to orienteering skill session.

New Scout Parent Meeting – Penguin and Seagull patrol parents are invited to learn about the Scouts BSA program, Troop 1, and Camp Wanocksett. The meeting runs in parallel with our Troop meeting, 7-8 PM next Thursday. Please tell your parents about the meeting. New scouts will attend the Camp Wanocksett portion of the meeting.

Memorial Day Parade – Once again we have been invited to march in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25th. We need to be at the Town Green no later than 8:45 AM. Parking downtown can get crowded so plan on arriving earlier. More details will follow when we get closer. This is a great time to show off our full uniforms. This includes a Scout shirt with properly located patches, pants, and Scout belt. If you wear Scout shorts you need Scout socks. A Scout hat and neckerchief are encouraged but optional.

Greenfield State Park – Troop 1 is headed to Greenfield State Park, May 29th through the 31st. Activities include hiking up Crotched Mountain and an Iron Chef competition for dinner. We will be departing the firehouse at 6pm on Friday and returning Sunday at 11:30am. More details to come.

Troop & Patrol Elections – Elections will be held on June 4th for Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Quartermaster, and Scribe, Patrol leader, and Assistant Patrol leader positions. Any scout interested in one of the troop positions (SPL, ASPL, Quartermaster, and Scribe) must meet with Mr. Bhimji to discuss expectations prior to June 4th in order to be eligible.

Court Of Honor – Our year end court of honor will be Thursday, June 11th. This may seem like a long way away, but if you are trying to move up a rank it is not. The last date for Boards of Review is Thursday May 28th. That means you should have your Scoutmaster Conference by May 21st. That’s only two weeks away. Scouts working towards the Scout rank need to complete their Scoutmaster Conference by May 28th.

If you are close to finishing a rank, please inform Mr. Bhimji & Mr Berry to schedule a Scoutmaster Conference and Board of Review.

If you have recently completed a merit badge, make sure you have turned in your blue card to Mr. Berry. You have not finished your merit badge until the blue card is signed and submitted.

And now here’s Mr. Bhimji from some awards.

For Patrol Time, scouts attending Maine High Adventure are meeting with Mr. Giger to go through the Crew Interest Survey. All other scouts should make sure their Patrol equipment was cleaned and put away after the last campout and then work on advancement.
