Packing List
Packs, tents, cooking gear, canoes, life jackets, and food is provided by MHA. Full list of equipment provided by MHA can be found on page 36 on the Participant Guide.
All attendees should pack their own clothes, footwear, uniform, toiletries, sleeping bag, pad, mess kit, flashlight, etc. All personal gear should be packed in a 25-35L dry bag/waterproof stuff sack. These bags are the first line of defense to keep your gear dry and will be placed into larger packs provided by MHA (2 people per pack).
The full packing list is on page 37 of the Participant Guide.
Important notes on the packing list:
- Read through the personal gear packing list in the participant guide!!!
- Pack your personal gear in a 25-35L dry bag.
- Bring an additional 10L dry bag that can be attached to the canoe for easy access to a sunscreen, jacket, etc.
- Two pairs of shoes are critical.
- Wet pair: These will be consistently wet. Wet shoes must be closed toed and ideally have a hard sole. Because of the amount of abuse they will see, MHA does not recommend cheap slip-on wet shoes. Old sneakers work well. Closed toe sandals with a hard sole are good as well.
- Dry pair: These are worn around camp (you should not wear the wet shoes longer than you need to). Light sneakers, etc work for this.
- 3 pairs of socks. Bring wool or synthetic, NOT cotton. One pair to wear with the wet shoes, one when you get to camp, and a spare.
- AVOID Cotton as much as you can! Cotton takes a long time to dry and we will be getting wet often.
- Bring a regular set of clothes for the first and last day at Maine High Adventure.
- Bring your class A uniform.
- Bring cash/credit card for meals while driving and any souvenirs desired.
- We will be able to leave extra clothes, bags, etc in the cars or in a locker while out on the trek.
The troop will provide first aid kits and other crew equipment for each crew.
Meals
We’ll be stopping for lunch while on the road to and from MHA. Please bring card/cash to pay for these meals. All other meals are paid for as part of the fee and are provided by MHA and Matagamon Wilderness Campground.
Health Forms
All attendees need to have updated health forms. MHA uses the standard Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record. Parts A, B & C are required. The physicians signature on part C must be within 1 year of our trip.
